According to Surry County deputies, a man was found dead from gunshot wounds on the side of the road

SURRY COUNTY, NC — According to officials with the Surry County Sheriff’s Office, a man was found dead on the side of the road with a gunshot wound.

Just before 12:30 p.m. Thursday, officers said they responded to the area of ​​Mount Herman Church Road in Mount Airy after receiving a call reporting a man lying unconscious and not breathing on the side of the road.

When officers arrived, they found the man dead from a gunshot wound.

Officers on scene requested assistance from the Criminal Investigation Department and the North Carolina State Bureau of Investigation. Detectives and agents arrived at the scene and began the investigation.

The investigation is still ongoing and it is considered murder.
