2 dead, 1 seriously injured in accident in Big Lake

Authorities are investigating an accident in Big Lake that left two people dead and one seriously injured Saturday morning.

According to a Minnesota State Patrol incident report, an officer with the Big Lake Police Department was driving south on Highway 25 at around 2:45 a.m. and saw a BMW exceeding the speed limit near Tarrytown Road.

The officer turned around to stop the vehicle for speeding when he saw that the BMW had left the road and overturned.

Two 17-year-old boys from Elk River died in the accident. Another 17-year-old boy suffered life-threatening injuries and was taken to HCMC.

According to officials, the accident is currently under investigation.
