Investigations underway after decomposing body found in a sewer in Greeneville, Tennessee

GREENEVILLE, Tenn. (WATE) – Greeneville police are investigating after a decomposing body was found in a sewer Saturday morning.

According to police, officers responded to the 1700 block of Moore Avenue around 11:20 a.m. after a report of a possible body in a sewer. When officers arrived, they found a decomposing body, according to GPD.


Due to the state of decomposition, the police assume that the body had been there for about a week.

The body was taken to the William L. Jenkins Forensic Center in Johnson City for identification and an autopsy. Greeneville police said they could not provide any further information on the age or gender of the body due to the condition of the body.
