San Jose hiker rescued by teen campers after attack in Humboldt County left him bleeding and injured

HUMBOLDT COUNTY, California – A San Jose man was rescued by a group of teenagers after he was seriously injured while hiking the Lost Coast Trail in Humboldt County.

Sashank Upadhyayula, 34, was on his first solo hike last week when he thought he was being attacked by another hiker.

He remembers hearing something that frightened him while out on an evening hike.

“I pulled out my bear gun and my two knives and that’s the last thing I remember because I woke up in the water again,” Upadhyayula said.

On ABC’s “Good Morning America” ​​on Friday, the hiker was reunited with the group of teenage campers and his counselor who rescued him after finding him bleeding and injured on the trail.

“It’s really nice to have the reassurance that you’re okay,” one of the teenagers told Upadhyayula.

The local sheriff says the case is still under investigation.
