Commemoration of the fire on the cargo ship in Port Newark, in which two firefighters lost their lives

What began in the final hours of July 5, 2023, lasted until the next morning – and for many days afterward. A cargo ship carrying more than 1,000 vehicles caught fire in the port of Newark. Firefighters rushed on board, but two of them did not make it out alive.

After the tragedy, lawsuits were filed, hearings were held, and people were determined to find out the cause.

Acabou and Brooks were both promoted to captain following the tragedy.
