FHP investigates crash on I-95 Mims that left Vero Beach woman dead and boy injured

Florida Highway Patrol investigators have released more details about the fatal crash that left a 73-year-old Vero Beach woman dead and an 8-year-old boy seriously injured Wednesday morning after a pickup truck pulling a travel trailer overturned on Interstate 95 in Mims, the Florida Highway Patrol reported.

The fatal crash occurred shortly after 11:50 a.m. near State Road 46, according to an FHP news release. All northbound lanes were closed and drivers were diverted to SR 46.

The woman, whose identity police did not determine, was driving a 2007 Ford F-150 in the outside lane when she lost control and oversteered for unknown reasons, the news release said. The truck spun, rolled over and eventually came to rest on its roof in the inside lane. The trailer tipped onto its right side.

Police pronounced the woman dead at the scene. A rescue helicopter took the boy to the Arnold Palmer Hospital for Children in Orlando, while a 74-year-old male passenger was uninjured. Both also live in Vero Beach.
