Buffalo City Council Adopts Risk Mitigation Plan – Sheridan Media

The Buffalo City Council voted to adopt the latest hazard mitigation plan for Johnson County, which also covers the county’s two incorporated areas, the City of Buffalo and the Town of Kaycee.

At their meeting Tuesday night, the council received a brief report from Johnson County Emergency Management Coordinator James Cataline, asking them to adopt the plan, which will help with planning, implementation and funding from federal sources needed in emergencies, such as wildfires, floods and other natural disasters.

He explains in more detail.

He also said FEMA’s position on hazard mitigation is that for every dollar spent on mitigation, it saves six dollars in the long run to deal with emergencies.

The council voted to adopt the latest hazard mitigation plan, which was adopted by Johnson County commissioners at their meeting earlier Tuesday.

The issue now goes to the Kaycee City Council for consideration.
