Mother mourns the loss of her son who died in a car accident in Miami Gardens

MIAMI – A grieving mother says her son was killed in a car crash in Miami Gardens early Tuesday morning.

The accident occurred at the corner of Miami Gardens Drive and NW 22nd Avenue.

The woman said she received a text message from her son’s phone saying the phone had apparently been involved in an accident. She rushed to the location where the phone was located.

She told CBS News Miami that when she asked police, she was told her son had died in an accident. She said another driver ran a red light and hit her son. That driver was taken to the hospital.

The woman said her son, who just turned 21, is an artist and the best person she knows. She added that he had just been accepted into St. Thomas University.

The Miami-Dade Fire Department confirmed that one person was taken to the hospital. Police have not confirmed the death.
