Father and son, residents of Yucatán, die in traffic accident near Cumbres de Maltrata, Veracruz

A truck driver and his son, who live in Yucatán, lost their lives aboard the heavy vehicle when it plunged into a ravine on the Cumbres de Maltrata highway in the Mexican state of Veracruz.

The accident occurred on Wednesday, June 26, but the identities of the victims were not revealed until Friday, the 28th. They are the driver, Nelson Lenin Delgado Rojas, 44 years old, and Oris Nelson Delgado Aguilar, a 17-year-old student. Both are from Campeche but live in the Piedra de Agua neighborhood in Umán.

According to press reports, the accident occurred on the 150D Puebla-Orizaba highway at kilometer 235, exactly where the last emergency ramp is located. The trailer with a flatbed semi-trailer with the license plate 52AY3M descended from the peaks shortly before 10 a.m. loaded with tons of lime.

At that moment, the heavy vehicle suffered a mechanical failure that left it without brakes, so the driver entered the emergency ramp. However, this could not stop the vehicle and it was thrown into a ravine over 50 meters deep.

When the car hit a bump, it collapsed and among the twisted iron and the destroyed goods, the bodies of the driver, from Ciudad del Carmen, and his son, born in Champotón, were found. It was announced that the death of both was instantaneous due to cranial trauma.

The wife and mother of the deceased turned to the staff of the Public Prosecutor’s Office in Orizaba, Veracruz, to identify and collect the bodies of their relatives and transport them to Pixoyal, Campeche, for burial.
