New trade proposal would send Houston Astros star to Yankees

The Houston Astros have been one of the hottest teams in baseball in recent days. Over their last eight games, they have gone 7-1.

Thanks to their short streak, the Astros improved their record to 40-41. They are alive and well in the Wild Card race, but they have some tough decisions to make.

In a month, the MLB trade deadline will arrive. Houston is seen as a team that could be buyers, but they could also be sellers. No one knows what the Astros will end up doing.

If they choose to sell some talent and build for the future, Houston will have some players that many teams around the league would be interested in acquiring.

One of their best potential assets is star third baseman Alex Bregman. The New York Yankees, who are looking to be very aggressive in negotiations, could be a potential suitor for him.

Athleticism recently suggested a trade between the Astros and Yankees that would send Bregman to New York.

In the proposed trade idea, he asks Houston to acquire right-hander Will Warren and right-hander Clayton Beeter in exchange for Bregman.

“The Yankees could use a different third baseman, with DJ LeMahieu nearing the end of his career. Bregman has also been one of the best postseason players during his career and could provide the Yankees with another quality bat in the middle of the order. “The Astros are back up to .500 and said they wouldn’t sell, but with the way their starting pitching has been beaten up this season, they might need a reset.”

Bregman has had a decent 2024 season so far. In 77 games, he hit .249/.310/.400 with nine home runs and 35 RBIs. These numbers are lower than what fans are used to seeing from him.

As for the return the Astros would get, Warren is currently ranked as the 7th best prospect in New York’s system, while Beeter is currently ranked 13th. Both players have high potential and could give Houston long-term answers when it comes to pitching.

Although this trade is purely hypothetical, it could make sense for both teams.

Houston will have to make a decision in the coming weeks.

If the Astros think they can compete with their current roster and a trade addition or two, they should buy. But if they don’t see any legitimate World Series contenders, they should consider selling a piece or two.
