Three injured in New Castle crash on Friday – First update from the state

New Castle County paramedics and the Wilmington Manor Fire Department responded to a traffic accident at approximately 4:45 p.m. at the intersection of South Dupont Highway and Quigley Boulevard. Upon arrival, emergency responders found an SUV, a compact car, and a semi-truck involved in the accident, with the compact car partially pinned under the semi-truck.

Paramedics treated three patients at the scene. A 24-year-old woman sustained a leg injury and possible internal injuries. She was transported in stable condition by Good Will Fire Company ambulance. A 28-year-old man, also with possible internal injuries, was transported in critical condition by Minquadale Fire Company ambulance. Additionally, a 22-year-old woman sustained a leg injury and possible internal injuries. She was transported in critical condition by Wilmington Manor Fire Company ambulance.

All patients were transported to Christiana Hospital in Stanton, Delaware under the care of New Castle County paramedics. The Delaware State Police are currently investigating the incident.

At approximately 4:43 p.m., emergency personnel were dispatched to a multi-vehicle crash at the intersection of S Dupont Hwy and Quigley Blvd in New Castle.

When emergency responders arrived on scene, they found a vehicle partially lodged under a tractor-trailer with at least one person trapped inside. At 4:56 p.m., Wilmington Manor Command confirmed that one patient had been extricated from the vehicle, while efforts to extricate a second trapped patient were ongoing.

During the recovery efforts, Wilmington Manor Command requested an additional ambulance to the scene, but it is not clear if one was dispatched. At least one patient was transported to Christiana Hospital for injuries sustained in the collision. The patient’s current condition is unknown.

According to initial reports, the collision occurred when a vehicle stopped at a traffic light was hit from behind and pushed into the semi-trailer. The exact number of other patients involved in the accident is not yet known.
