Suspicious package destroyed, second one being investigated in “serious incident”

Police confirmed that a controlled explosion was carried out on a suspicious package in Nottingham.

Another suspicious object is also to be destroyed by the explosives disposal technicians.

The first package was discovered in Maxwell Court, Lenton, and the second in nearby Allington Avenue.

The roads in the area remain closed.

People are advised to stay away until further notice and several residents have been evacuated as a precaution.

A Nottinghamshire Police spokesman said: “This is an ongoing incident and we are treating it as a major incident alongside other emergency services and will provide further regular updates on our website and social media.”

“Residents are urged to avoid the area at this time. We thank them for their patience and understanding.”
