NPP Vice-Candidate: Should Wontumi Boys stop operating for NPP because of NAPO’s nomination? | Politics

Disturbing reports are emerging from the Ashanti regional branch of the ruling New Patriotic Party (NPP) regarding the alleged nomination of Energy Minister and Member of Parliament for Manhyia South, Mathew Opoku Prempeh, as the party’s running mate and presidential candidate.

According to credible information, members of the Regional Chairman’s inner team have threatened to abandon the Chairman and the party to their fate if NAPO is confirmed as Dr Mahamadu Bawumia’s running mate.

The group is reportedly unhappy that Dr. Mathew Opoku Prempeh personally invested time and resources to campaign against Chairman Wontumi when he was running for re-election.

“This development almost led to the party’s withdrawal from the region two years ago,” the group said.

They also pointed to the subsequent smear campaign by some communicators and social media groups linked to the Energy Minister against Chairman Wontumi and his government.

Against this background, the group says it is not prepared to make any compromises. It warned that doing so would exclude the state chairman and prevent it from participating in any party activities or the 2024 election campaign.

“We will leave Wontumi alone to campaign. If Napo is elected vice president, we will never participate in any activities in the region,” the group warned sternly.

In addition, the team painfully recounted how a campaign sponsored by Napo nearly turned the regional chairman and some members of the Council of Elders against Asantehene and the Manhyia Palace, thereby destroying the smooth relationship between Chairman Wontumi and his king, Otumfuo Osei Tutu II.
