Syracuse man faces life in prison for sexually abusing boy while on probation for sex crimes

Syracuse, NY – A Syracuse man who previously eight years in prison for sexual crimes against a boy, He now faces life in prison for similar crimes, prosecutors said.

Steven Valder, 34, repeatedly sexually abused a 13-year-old boy in Syracuse in 2019, photographed the abuse and possessed child pornography, according to the U.S. Attorney’s Office for the Northern District of New York.

He did so a year after he was released from state prison in 2018 for having sex with a 14-year-old boy, state records show. He had been sent to prison for that crime in 2010.

Valder was recently charged after his probation officer found a phone that he was not authorized to use, reports said. The probation officer found images of the child victim and child pornography from the Internet on the device.

He was charged with sexual exploitation of a child, committing a crime against a minor as a registered sex offender and receiving child pornography. His sentencing is scheduled for October 25.
