In the footsteps of the tropics:

We observe two disturbances in the tropics. One is off the coast of Africa, heading west. This has a 40% chance of development.

There is a medium chance of this happening. (Copyright 2024 by KPRC Click2Houston – All rights reserved.)

The other is in the Caribbean Sea. It has a 20% chance of developing as it enters the Bay of Campeche. This could bring heavy rain to eastern Mexico by Monday, July 1. Saharan dust from Africa creates dry air where these disturbances are found. The dust minimizes tropical development by sinking dry air near these storms. This dust will move toward Southeast Texas Friday and Saturday, leading to poor air quality. Saharan dust particles also create beautiful sunrises and sunsets.
