Biden must focus on infrastructure, Trump in debate in Atlanta, supporters say – WSB-TV Channel 2

ATLANTA — We’re just over two days away from the presidential debate here in Atlanta, and we’re hearing what each candidate will try to tell Georgia.

There are two sayings that are really relevant right now: “Atlanta influences everything” and “Georgia is the center of the political universe.”

Both candidates are trying to get their message across in Thursday night’s debate and, remember, both want that message to resonate here in Georgia, because Georgia is a battleground.

Channel 2’s Richard Elliot spoke one-on-one with Georgia Democratic U.S. Senator Jon Ossoff moments after his press conference in downtown Atlanta.

“I think the president is in a position of strength,” Ossoff told Elliot.

He also held a rally for the Biden campaign.

Just two days before the debate, Ossoff said he thought Biden needed to remind Georgia voters what he had done for them, particularly on infrastructure.

“Georgia benefits from the bipartisan infrastructure law. When you look at the investments that are being made in advanced energy, electric vehicle production and semiconductor manufacturing through manufacturing incentives, Georgia is doing better than any state in the country,” he said. Ossoff said.

A new poll shows Biden slightly behind Trump in Georgia, 43% to 38%.

The same polls give Robert Kennedy, who is not yet officially on the ballot but who should be, at 9%, including 8% undecided.

But with a margin of error of 3.1%, Georgia is still up for grabs.

Caroline Sunshine is deputy communications director for the Trump campaign.

“He has a great track record and he’s looking forward to this debate,” Sunshine told Elliot.

She said Trump plans to focus on his record as president and draw comparisons to Biden.

“But no matter what they throw at him, you can’t argue with President Trump’s record, you know, and you’ll see that in this debate. Under Joe Biden, we are experiencing the worst border crisis in U.S. history. That’s a fact,” Sunshine said.

The debate takes place Thursday evening and you can watch it LIVE on WSB-TV at 9 p.m.
