Death of inmate confirmed at Dooly State Prison

DOOLY COUNTY, Ga. – A Dooly State Prison inmate was found dead Saturday, Dooly County Coroner James Hudson confirmed.

Carlito Soldiew-Acosta was found dead in his isolation cell. He was serving a life sentence for murder. He was about 39 years old

The cause of death is currently unknown, but Hudson said foul play is likely involved.

The Georgia Department of Corrections said his body has been turned over to county medical examiners and will be taken to the Georgia Bureau of Investigations crime lab to determine the cause of death.

Hudson said that although Soldiew-Acosta was found dead on Saturday, he had likely been dead for at least 24 hours, if not longer. Hudson also mentioned that he had a cellmate in his isolation cell. It’s unclear if they were involved.

Soldiew-Acosta was charged with murder in December 2015.

A CBS station in Savannah reported that he was charged with the murder of a woman in Lyons, Georgia. He pleaded guilty and was eventually convicted of first-degree murder in 2019.
