Teams believe Atlanta Hawks’ No. 1 pick in 2024 NBA Draft has narrowed down to two players

We’re less than a week away from the start of the 2024 NBA Draft, and there’s still some mystery surrounding who the Atlanta Hawks will take with the first overall pick. While they were open to discussing trade offers in an effort to bolster the team’s depth, it now appears that Atlanta is forced to stand and choose the best player on their draft board.

Alright, so if Atlanta stays put, who will they take? Reports suggest the Hawks haven’t been able to attract all the prospects they would like for a private workout. Frenchman Alex Sarr is the one who has avoided Atlanta so far, but there are still plenty of other options.

Yet, according to Yahoo’s Jake Fischer, teams believe the Hawks are focusing on two specific prospects.

“Atlanta will listen at No. 1, but the Hawks appear determined to hold on, sources said, while the front office finalizes which prospect to select at the top of a draft class full of question marks. At this point, most of the team picking the spots behind Atlanta believe the Hawks will ultimately choose between French wing Zaccharie Risacher and UConn center Donovan Clingan.

Previous reports suggested the Hawks were smitten with Clingan, but believed they might be able to negotiate and still land their top target. That no longer appears to be the case, with several other teams, like Chicago, Memphis and Portland, also making champion UConn one of their top priorities.

Regardless, it appears the Hawks are looking to add size to their core, with Risacher measuring 6-foot-9 as a small forward and Clingan being quite taller as a 7-foot-2 center. The two would be perfect to complement Trae Young and Dejounte Murray if the All-Star duo even sticks around.
