Weather warning: Another day of extreme heat | WETM

By tomorrow evening we should say goodbye to the heat in its current form. It should peak tomorrow. Despite this, we are still expected to be hotter than average. It will still be hot, but not as hot as most of this week. Starting Thursday we will add the possibility of heavy rain to the forecast.

Tomorrow marks the start of the first day of summer. However, there is the argument that summer started a long time ago. As I mentioned, there is also the risk of severe weather, as we face a slight risk of severe thunderstorms on Thursday and Friday. The slight risk is a two out of three on a severity scale. The rain will cool us down a little in the future, at least. After that, we will still stay in the 30s, but the heat index will not be as high.

One thing I mentioned is that the ridge of high pressure that’s keeping us warm is also responsible for pulling a low pressure system onshore in the Atlantic that would normally have been pushed out to sea. So the National Hurricane Center is studying how it develops and it could be a rainmaker for the southeast coast. The other big news is that Alberto was named today in the Gulf of Mexico and it’s the first named storm of the 2024 season. There are tropical storm warnings in place along the Texas coast.
