» Further charges filed for hit-and-run

Emmetsburg, IA (KICD) – Additional charges have been filed against the woman accused of injuring a five-year-old bicyclist in a hit-and-run accident.
The Palo Alto County Sheriff’s Department on Friday charged 22-year-old Laticia Whiting with first-degree driving while under the influence of alcohol and aggravated assault by vehicle. She was previously charged with leaving the scene of an accident resulting in serious injury, driving on the wrong side of the road, having an open bottle of alcohol in the car and failure to prove financial liability.
Authorities believe Whiting struck a girl – later identified by a family member as Mackenzie Puterbaugh – in Ruthven on the evening of June 9 and then drove to Spirit Lake, where authorities identified her car and took her into custody.
Mackenzie’s aunt told KICD News the girl suffered a punctured lung and other injuries, but was released from a Sioux Falls hospital the following Tuesday.
