Auckland Transport says train services in the city have now resumed, but there will be disruptions for the rest of the day.

Train services were suspended on all routes on Wednesday morning.

Auckland Transport said a track fault and ongoing industrial action were the cause.

It was said that some delays and cancellations were to be expected for the rest of the day.

Auckland Transport franchise manager Craig Inger said AT recognised the disruption was extremely frustrating and wanted a resolution to the industrial action as soon as possible.

Previously, AT had deployed two railbuses on the Eastern Line and two more on the Southern Line to provide alternative transport while KiwiRail worked to resolve the issue.

An Eastern Line passenger had previously told RNZ that his train was stuck at Middlemore Station for about 50 minutes.

An AT spokesman said a switch fault which occurred at Middlemore at around 7.30am during rush hour resulted in the crew being unable to reach their destination.

He said the eastern line was the first to be closed, followed by the remaining lines.

Customers were advised to use the journey planner to find out which bus services would take them to their destination.
