Nearly two dozen arrests in “DUI Blitz” over the weekend in Las Vegas

LAS VEGAS (KLAS) — Metro’s DUI Strike Team arrested 22 people for drunk driving in a raid Saturday to keep drunk drivers off the roads.

The one-day “DUI Blitz” on June 15 was a busy day for officers from the Northeast Area Command, Southeast Area Command and the Traffic Bureau, who worked together to conduct the one-day blitz. In addition to 22 drunk driving arrests, 81 citations were issued and there were five other arrests. Details of those arrests were not released.


Results of the Las Vegas Metropolitan Police Dept. (LVMPD) drunk driving investigation released

Following a series of fatal accidents related to driving under the influence in the first few months of 2024, the Las Vegas Metropolitan Police Department relaunched its “DUI Blitz” program on May 18. This time of year is known as the 100 deadliest days of summer, especially for teenagers who are out of school during the summer.

Here are the overall statistics since May 18th:

  • 84 arrests for drunk driving
  • 20 more arrests
  • 1,132 stops
  • 827 quotes
  • 7 firearms seized

“The LVMPD DUI Strike Team is comprised of 10 officers who make a huge difference on the streets. Check out some of the things the team has taken off the streets and impaired drivers off the roads since resuming on May 18,” Metro said in a social media post on Monday.

2023 was one of the deadliest years on the state’s roads in nearly 20 years. According to police, the two main factors in most fatal crashes are drunk driving and/or speeding.
