Pastor gets life sentence for raping minor — Nigeria — The Guardian Nigeria News – Nigeria and World News

A High Court in Ado-Ekiti, Ekiti State on Thursday sentenced a clergyman of Winner Chapel Church in Omuo-Ekiti, Pastor Enoch Ebinyiam, to life imprisonment for raping a minor.

The victim, the daughter of a parishioner of the convict church, is said to have been raped by the priest during one of her visits to the rectory.

The girl is said to have visited the mission house frequently to help the pastor’s wife with housework and to help his young children with their homework.

During one of her visits to the rectory, the prisoner drugged her with a bottle of Fanta mixed with a sleeping pill. After she fell asleep, the priest had sexual intercourse with the girl. She woke up to find that she was bleeding heavily from her genital area.

The convict was arrested and produced in court on charges of rape, a violation of Section 2 of the Gender-Based Violence (Prohibition) Act, 2019.

Attorney General Julius Ajibade, who represented the case for Ekiti State, called four witnesses and presented two exhibits to prove his case.

The convicted man spoke through his lawyer Adeyinka Opaleke, who testified in his defence as he called only one other witness.

In his judgment, Judge Olusegun Ogunyemi found that the prosecution had proven beyond reasonable doubt that the accused was guilty of rape.

The judge then sentenced the defendant to life imprisonment.
