Analyst on Hochul’s congestion pricing decision

The legislative session is over, but lawmakers have left New Yorkers with a cliffhanger: how they will pay for a gaping hole in the Metropolitan Transportation Authority’s budget now that Gov. Kathy Hochul has suspended congestion pricing.

“I think a lot of people were surprised,” Shontell Smith said. Capital tonight. Smith is a partner at Tusk Strategies and former chief of staff to Senate Majority Leader Andrea Stewart Cousins. “I think it was courageous of him to suspend congestion pricing; I know I (don’t) have… the common opinion on this. But I think it was the right action, at the wrong time.
