The cyclist who was struck by a school bus in Alma on June 6 is recovering from his injuries and the bus driver has been cleared of any wrongdoing.

The accident occurred around 7:50 a.m. at the intersection of Bridge Street and Washington Street, just one block south of the bus depot.

According to Police Chief Kendra Overla, the cyclist was a 16-year-old boy who was taken by ambulance to MyMichigan Medical Center in Midland after the accident.

“According to witnesses to the accident, the bus stopped at the corner of Washington and Bridge and then turned left onto Bridge heading north,” Overla said in a press release.

“When the bus started moving, the cyclist got onto the road and was hit. So far, no tickets have been issued.”

APD officers were assisted by the Alma Fire Department, MMR, Michigan State Police, Gratiot County Sheriff’s Office and the dispatch center.
