Braves rain delay vs. Nationals

The Atlanta Braves are expected to send Hurston Waldrep to the mound for his major league debut Sunday to face the Nationals. Waldrep was the Braves’ first-round pick in the 2023 MLB Draft and he has since exploded through the minor leagues to the big leagues in less than a calendar year.

UPDATE: The Nationals announced that Sunday’s game will now start at 2:10 p.m. EST.

It was a fairly short delay and it rained very little. Fortunately, Braves fans won’t have to wait too long to see Waldrep step on a major league mound for the first time.

Unfortunately, Mother Nature (or at least the Nationals’ overly cautious interpretation of Mother Nature’s signs) has other plans and we are officially in a rain delay of questionable nature.

Obviously, Bowman is referring to an infamous rain delay in 2017, where a Braves-Nationals game was delayed three hours for what amounted to a slow drizzle. Given what Bowman is watching right now, one wonders if fans could expect something similar on Sunday afternoon.

However, this rain delay has at least a little more merit than 2017’s, as forecasts show a high chance of rain in the area around the game’s original start time. However, it doesn’t appear that the Rain is expected to linger too long, so fans can expect this match to happen on a delay that SHOULD NOT be too late if the various meteorologists are decent enough at their jobs.

This is great because Braves fans are very excited to see Waldrep make his MLB debut and face the Nationals who send DJ Herz to the hill. Herz has only one start in the big leagues and it hasn’t gone particularly well as the southpaw has allowed four runs in four innings of work. So hopefully this will give the offense some opportunities to break out of its prolonged slump and give Waldrep a little bit. breathing room.

This article will be updated to convey any information regarding when the game is expected to begin as those details become available.
