A 23-year-old Warren man was seriously injured in an industrial accident, fire officials and social media reports said.

The Warren Fire Department said the incident occurred at DPR Manufacturing on Mound Road around 2 p.m. Friday. Firefighters were met by company employees who said they had removed a heavy piece of machinery that had fallen on the victim.

“Firefighters were dispatched by the company to the patient and quickly determined that the employee had suffered cardiac arrest and other life-threatening crush injuries,” the fire department said in a press release.

Firefighters initiated advanced life support measures, including starting an IV and performing CPR. The patient was then placed on a stretcher and transported to Ascension Macomb Oakland Hospital for medical treatment.

Friends on social media identified the victim as Matthew McCoy of Warren and said he had died, according to posts Saturday.

Alayna Wilde, who set up a GoFundMe account for the McCoy family, said the victim was very close to his sister Jami and played a big role in raising her brother.

“As Matthew’s family and friends begin this debilitating grieving process, we ask that Jami receive compassion and generosity to help offset the financial burden of his funeral,” Wildie wrote on the account page.

A department spokesman said Sunday that McCoy’s death could not be confirmed for privacy reasons.

According to the website, DPR Manufacturing is a family-owned custom manufacturing company that offers steel, stainless steel and aluminum products.
