20-year sentence for man who sexually abused girl | News

A man was sentenced to 20 years in prison and ordered to undergo drug treatment for sexually assaulting a 9-year-old girl

William Robert Reyes, 64, was convicted of first-degree criminal sexual conduct and second-degree criminal sexual conduct for sexual penetration of a child he knew.

On Tuesday, Judge John C. Terlaje handed Reyes a 20-year sentence.

Attorney-General Douglas Moylan said in a statement the judge recognized the defendant had breached the trust of a vulnerable victim he knew and that a sentence of less than 20 years would reduce the seriousness of the offence.

The AG said Reyes was a pedophile and meth addict who was convicted by a 12-member jury on Feb. 16.

The judge ordered Reyes to attend the Residential Abuse Treatment Program for his methamphetamine abuse.

“The AG thanks this young girl for her courage in coming forward and stopping this meth-addicted pedophile from molesting other children. Pedophiles deserve prison, especially pedophiles who have voluntarily chosen to take drugs that are proven to be addictive and cause them to commit violent crimes. “Our senators are calling for Guam law to be changed to require life sentences without the possibility of parole to protect our children,” the AG said.

The Attorney General’s Office team included Assistant Attorney General Christine Tenorio, investigator Keane Pangelinan and victim advocate Roshjay Mantanona.
