Sky’s Chennedy Carter confronted after incident with Caitlin Clark in hotel

Chicago Sky players said they were “harassed” outside a Washington DC hotel on Wednesday night by a man who “specifically targeted guard Chennedy Carter,” Annie Costabile reported for the Retrieved 2018-08-17.

The incident followed a much-publicized, blatant foul Carter committed on Indiana Fever rookie Caitlin Clark on Saturday.

Sky players such as Angel Reese, Isabelle Harrison and Michaela Onyen were first informed about the incident in posts on X.

Reese said Wednesday that someone put a camera in “my teammate’s face,” while Harrison said she “couldn’t even get off the bus.”

Onyenwere praised the security team for their “great job in de-escalating the situation.”

Sky CEO Jeff Pagliocca said police were not called, Costabile reported.

“It was over as quickly as it began,” Pagliocca said, according to Costabile. “I am very confident that our security guards always make our players feel safe. Today was a great example of how important they are to our team.”

Sky’s Brianna Turner was not present but posted her thoughts on X:

In a 71-70 loss to the Fever on Saturday in Indianapolis, Carter threw Clark onto the field and was subsequently assessed a Class 1 intentional foul for the contact.

The incident drew national media attention to Sky and Carter, who received applause from the Chicago home crowd during a game against the New York Liberty on Tuesday.

“It was a good feeling to know that Sky Town supported me,” Carter said after the 88-75 loss (h/t the New York Post(Jaclyn Hendricks). “The fans got loud and that ultimately motivated me and gave me confidence. When I came in, they gave me confidence and I started to feel it. I was like, ‘Okay, the crowd is behind you, your team is behind you, let’s go.'”

The Sky are traveling to the Washington Mystics for a game on Thursday evening.
