Homicide suspect arrested in New Orleans – NECN

A man suspected of killing a 22-month-old child in Thomaston, Maine, last week was arrested in New Orleans on Wednesday, police said.

Aziayh Scott, 23, was taken into custody with the help of the U.S. Marshals Service and Louisiana State Police, Maine State Police said Wednesday. The child who died May 29 was identified as Quayshawn Wilson.

According to police, emergency responders were called to a Walmart in Thomaston, a coastal town east of Brunswick, around 7:30 p.m. that day because a child was not breathing. The child was taken to Pen Bay Medical Center, where he was pronounced dead.

Quayshawn’s death was ruled a blunt force trauma homicide, police said Wednesday. The child had been living with Scott, a Louisiana native who recently moved to Maine, and his girlfriend. Police did not disclose the relationship between the child, Scott and Scott’s girlfriend.

Detectives went to Scott’s home in Owls Head, Maine, on Tuesday – the same day they obtained a warrant for his arrest – but learned he and the woman had returned to Louisiana. Maine police then contacted their counterparts in the southern state, officials said. Scott was arrested on a manslaughter charge in New Orleans on Wednesday morning.

It was not immediately clear whether Scott, who was just returned to Maine, had an attorney who could comment on his arrest.

Police did not provide further details on how Quayshawn was believed to have been killed.
