Parents go to vote, seven-year-old girl from Odisha raped and strangled: police

A man is said to have raped and killed a seven-year-old girl while she was home alone and her parents wanted to vote, police said on Sunday.

The incident occurred on Saturday in a village in the Kuliana police station area of ​​Mayurbhjanj district in the state of Odisha, it said.

The 23-year-old man went to the girl’s house and took her near a river where he allegedly raped and then strangled her, they added.

Villagers found the girl’s body and arrested the accused. They later handed him over to the police.

A case has been registered under sections 376AB (rape) and 302 (murder) of the Indian Penal Code (IPC), an official said.
