Search for driver who attacked and injured a traffic policeman

A video that has since gone viral shows a driver attacking a traffic policeman on Sunday. A manhunt is currently underway to find him.

According to a road accident report filed at Kasarani police station on Sunday, an unidentified driver fled the scene after injuring an on-duty police officer.

According to the police report, the driver was stopped around 8:00 a.m. on Sunday for blocking Mirema Drive.

“A police officer was directing traffic on Kamiti Road at the Mirema intersection when he spotted a motor vehicle turning on the road, obstructing other road users,” the police report said.

“As he approached the vehicle in question, the driver struck the curb and became stuck.”

During the check, a traffic police officer boarded the vehicle and, according to the report, directed the driver to the Kasarani police station.

Officials investigating the incident said the motorist pulled out a sword from under his seat while driving near the Quickmatt supermarket on Kamiti Road.

Fearing for his own safety, the police officer is said to have jumped out of the car and fled, closely followed by the driver, who was wearing a red basketball jersey over jeans and sneakers.

The video shows the unknown man knocking the police officer down with an overhand strike and then kicking him in the face with a soccer ball.

When he tried to attack the officer again, several people rushed to his aid. The video shows him fleeing the scene.

During the scuffle, the driver is said to have stolen the battery of a police cell phone, which has not yet been recovered.

Meanwhile, the police officer sought medical attention at Crestview Mother and Child Wellness Centre Kasarani and was referred to Mama Lucy for further treatment.

Shortly thereafter, detectives arrested an accomplice, Peter Kiragu, and are now pursuing the driver and vehicle involved in Sunday’s incident.
