“Driving me crazy” – Carlos Alcaraz’s coach brutally attacked by tennis fans because of his endless “tweeting” at the French Open

In recent years, Juan Carlos Ferrero has played a significant role in the career of Carlos Alcaraz. The Spanish coach took his compatriot under his wing at the beginning of his professional career and turned Alcaraz into a Grand Slam champion within a few years. However, their path is not as easy as it seems, as Ferrero is embroiled in a controversy at the ongoing French Open.

During Alcaraz’s games, Ferrero could be heard screaming several times. Although the new rules do not allow coaches to coach during games, Ferrero still gave Alcaraz some advice. A glimpse of it was shared in a video on social media and fans were not happy with Ferrero’s disregard for the rules.

One of the fans, who has apparently been following the two closely for some time, recognized a pattern in Ferrero’s behavior. The comment read: “JKF has been doing the exact same thing (sometimes even worse) for so long. Plus, CA is watching JKF the whole time.”

Likewise, one fan could not understand the reason why Alcaraz’s coach did not follow the rules and was completely baffled by the turn of events. He said: “JCF drives me crazy because he’s constantly snapping at Carlos, who can’t solve problems on his own. JCF calls him plays, then Carlos makes them, and then he looks at JCF and gives him a fist bump. Being so dependent is not good for his game. JCF isn’t always going to be there, so what?”

Additionally, a Twitter user highlighted what fans may have missed, saying: “That’s the main difference that people don’t understand. Stef never listens to Apo.” Meanwhile, one of the fans defended Carlos Alcaraz while denouncing his coach, saying: “I completely agree and haven’t been vocal about it, but before the new rule they were very sneaky with signs!! At least API was open about it and always has been.”

Although this was not enough, some fans even criticized Ferrero for breaking the rules. One fan said: “The double standards in this matter have always amazed me.”

Despite the attention that an unwanted controversy brings, Ferrero is highly respected in coaching circles. The statistics speak for themselves: he has taken Alcaraz to the top, which is why he was highly praised by Roddick a few months ago.

Ferrero has known Alcaraz for a long time since they joined forces in 2017. Over the years, their collaboration has deepened enormously and Alcaraz has developed into one of the best players of the next generation. Roddick highlighted this and also praised the work of Alcaraz’s coach over the years.

The American legend said: “He definitely doesn’t need another coach. JCF has been incredible. To say his serve hasn’t improved doesn’t mean it hasn’t improved. It’s a night and day difference compared to two years ago. They’ve done an incredible job.”

Alcaraz’s dip in form also coincided with his coach not being by his side for personal reasons. The Spanish coach underwent knee surgery, which meant he had to miss major tournaments like the Australian Open earlier this year. Nevertheless, he is now back and Alcaraz has a good chance of winning the French Open title.
