Pueblo police arrest suspected sex offender

(PUEBLO, Colorado) – The Pueblo Police Department (PPD) announced that officers have arrested a suspect in a case involving the alleged sexual assault of a woman on Pueblo’s east side.

According to PPD, a woman was held against her will and sexually assaulted during the week of May 20th; during the investigation, detectives obtained an arrest warrant for 61-year-old Jefferson Benfield and a search warrant for his home.

On Wednesday, May 29, Benfield was located by detectives and, after a short chase, was arrested and taken into custody.

According to PPD, Benfield was booked into the Pueblo County Detention Center on charges of sexual assault and false imprisonment. Benfield is currently listed as a registered sex offender, according to PPD.
