Sysco adds 10 electric trucks to its Houston fleet

Food distributor Sysco Corporation recently celebrated the addition of 10 heavy-duty electric trucks to its Houston fleet.

The company says it now has nearly 120 electric vehicles worldwide.

“We are proud of our progress in growing our electric truck fleet and continuing our journey to meet our climate goal,” Neil Russell, chief administrative officer of Sysco, said in a press release. “This work is important to many of our customers who have also set emissions reduction targets. Electrifying part of our fleet will help us together reduce our carbon footprint while reducing noise pollution and improving the daily experience of our delivery partners.

“We are grateful to the many manufacturers, government officials and community partners who have worked with us to reach this important moment. »

Sysco’s goal is to reduce its direct emissions by 27.5% by 2030, the company said.

Sysco now has heavy-duty electric tractors in the United States, Canada, United Kingdom and Sweden, including more than 100 vehicles based in the United States in Baltimore, Maryland; Boston, Mass.; Denver, Colo.; Fremont, California; Houston, TX; Long Island, New York; Los Angeles, California; and Riverside, California.

The company expects to receive additional electric vehicles by the end of June, bringing the total number of electric vehicles in its fleet to more than 130.

“The scale of our electric vehicle deployment today is the result of years of planning and enormous levels of cross-industry collaboration,” said Dan Purefoy, Sysco’s chief supply chain officer. “I would like to thank my team for their expertise and leadership in strengthening our capabilities to deploy this new technology in our operations. We appreciate all Sysco colleagues who have been part of this journey thus far, as well as the Sysco Board and leadership team for supporting our vision of a low-carbon fleet.
