Man with suspended license appears for virtual court hearing while driving

A Michigan man accused of driving while suspended showed up to a virtual hearing behind the wheel, surprising the presiding judge. A video of the hearing that has since gone viral shows defendant Corey Harris in a vehicle as he dialed into the Zoom call. Judge Cedric Simpson couldn’t hide his shock and asked if Harris was driving. “Actually, I’m driving to my doctor’s office right now,” Harris said. “So just give me a second. I’m parking right now.” Simpson confirmed with attorneys that Harris’ hearing on a suspended driving charge was taking place. “I look at his record and he doesn’t have a license,” Simpson said. “He’s suspended and he’s just driving.” “I don’t even know why he would do that,” Simpson continued. “So the defendant’s bail is revoked on this matter.” Simpson also ordered Harris to turn himself in to the county jail later that day. Judge Cedric Simpson could not hide his shock and asked if Harris had been driving.

“Actually, I’m driving to my doctor’s office right now,” Harris said. “So just give me a second. I’m parking.”

Simpson had his lawyers confirm that Harris was being tried for driving without a license.

“I looked at his record and he doesn’t have a license,” Simpson said. “He’s suspended and he’s just driving.”

“I don’t even know why he would do that,” Simpson continued. “So the defendant’s bail is revoked in this matter.”

Simpson also ordered Harris to surrender to the county jail that same day.
