Buffalo Grand Hotel owner: ‘I’m not going to give up and walk away’

BUFFALO, N.Y. — Travelers to Buffalo will have to wait at least a few more months to learn the fate of the city’s largest downtown hotel.

Six months after being fined by Canadian authorities and ordered to repay $13 million to investors, developer Harry Stinson is sticking to his plan to reopen the shuttered Buffalo Grand Hotel.

This is despite the inability of his insurance company and lawyers to find a resolution and settlement for the arson that led to the closure of the 486-room hotel in the early morning hours of New Year’s Eve Year 2022.

“I’m not going to give up and walk away,” he told Buffalo Business First. “Our plan is to reopen the entire facility as it was, and once that is accomplished, we will return to expanding or building the second phase, but the plan has not changed in its basic format , although the schedule is certainly fixed.
