Man arrested at India-Nepal border for raping and impregnating 13-year-old girl

Delhi Police have arrested a man from the India-Nepal border for allegedly raping and impregnating a 13-year-old girl in southwest Delhi, officials said.

The incident came to light on Wednesday after the victim’s mother took her to Safdarjung Hospital for a check-up where she came to know about the pregnancy.

A senior official said the accused initially contacted the victim after he started working at a Momo stall run by the victim’s father.

“The accused had been working at the stall for almost 20 days before he went missing,” the official said, adding that the victim’s family was unaware of his whereabouts.

Through technical surveillance and sources, the police came to know that the accused Umesh Thapa was seeking refuge in Nepal.

“The police laid a trap and called him back to India for some real estate work. When he reached the border, they arrested him and took him to Delhi,” said DCP (South West) Rohit Meena.

A case has been registered against the accused under Section 376 (rape) of the Indian Penal Code and the POCSO Act. He was produced before a court on Tuesday and remanded in custody, police added.
