Arrest made in connection with Birmingham shooting that left 1 person dead and 6 injured

BIRMINGHAM, Alabama (WIAT) – A man was arrested in connection with a shooting that left one person dead and six others injured earlier this month, the Birmingham Police Department (BPD) announced Friday.

Armonta Davis, 21, is charged with attempted murder and two counts of assault. His bail is set at a total of $120,000.

On May 5, just after 2 a.m., BPD officers were dispatched to the 700 and 800 block of 3rd Avenue West in response to multiple ShotSpotter alerts. They found a sedan that had crashed into a utility pole and inside of which was 24-year-old David Westbrook, fatally shot.

In the early morning hours, six men were taken to local hospitals with gunshot wounds. Police believe all of the men were injured when shots were fired at a Shell gas station at 800 3rd Avenue West.

On Wednesday, Davis turned himself in to police after investigators released photos of a person involved in the case. He was taken to Birmingham Jail and given a 48-hour extension to his sentence.

Investigators presented evidence to the Jefferson County District Attorney’s Office, which issued arrest warrants for Davis. He will be taken to the Jefferson County Jail.
