Wake held for 17-year-old high school student killed in wrong-way driving accident on I-71 – WHIO TV 7 and WHIO Radio

WARREN COUNTY – A wake was held Thursday evening for a 17-year-old high school student who was killed in a wrong-way driving accident on Interstate 71 last week.

Family and friends gathered in the chapel of Mason Crossroads Church to pay their final respects to Chad Case, 17, a junior at Mason High School.

Mason City Schools announced the visit on social media earlier this week.

“Sam loved his family, friends, football and animals very much,” the district said. “He had a great sense of humor and shared his mother’s love of sunrises and sunsets.”

As News Center 7 previously reported, Case was driving north on southbound I-71 in the Deerfield area at 1:40 a.m. on May 17 when his Jeep collided with an oncoming semi-truck.

Both vehicles veered off the southeast side of the road and the semi-trailer overturned.

According to police, the driver of the semi-trailer suffered injuries that are not life-threatening.

Case succumbed to his injuries at the scene of the accident.

The district set up its crisis support team for high school students last week.
