Whenever a fully grown adult embarks on a daring adventure, he is – or should be – prepared for the small possibility of an accident. It was actress and real-life adventurer Nina Dobrev who broke the news to her fans that she was involved in a serious e-bike accident.

Assuming you haven’t been living under a rock without internet access, this is something you need to be aware of “How it started and how it’s going” Trend that often makes the rounds on social media. It’s perhaps one of the least harmful social media fads, allowing people to post predominantly inspirational or funny content.

Nina Dobrev’s post was anything but these two things, as she used it to spread the news that she was involved in a serious e-bike accident. She posted a carousel of two photos with the caption “How it started and how it’s going.” In one picture she was seen beaming from her off-road e-bike, in the other she was stretched out on a hospital bed, hooked up to a monitor, with a brace on her knee and a neck brace.

This was the kind of post that didn’t need any context to understand: Nina drove out, had an accident, and ended up in the hospital. Her fans rushed to express their concern and offer congratulations, prompting Nina to reach out to her directly.

If her injuries look bad, it’s because they are, she says: “I’m fine, but it’s going to be a long road to recovery.”

Her accident is reminiscent of another high-profile e-bike accident four years ago, when music mogul and television personality Simon Cowell broke his back while trying out a new e-bike that had just been delivered to his home in California. The difference is that Cowell was and is an amateur compared to Dobrev, who is adept at all kinds of demanding physical activities and sports.

Both celebrities were injured on electric motorcycles, not standard e-bikes like we see everywhere these days. However, both are referred to as “e-bikes” even though different regulations apply to them.

The 2024 E Ride PRO\-SS, the "best off-road bike" in the world

Dobrev’s vehicle at the time of the accident appears to have been an E Ride PRO-SS, described as “the best off-road bike” Thanks to a motor with a rated power of 5 kW and a peak power of 12 kW, it reaches a top speed of 60 mph (96.5 km/h).

The PRO-SS features a removable Samsung 72V40AH (2880WH) battery, adjustable sport suspension and regenerative braking and weighs 139 lbs (63 kg), retailing for less than $5,000. It’s exactly the kind of electric motorcycle you’d expect from an adrenaline junkie like Dobrev. Accidents happen to the best of us, so I wish the actress a speedy recovery!
