Oregon man arrested after being accused of going to Seattle to sexually abuse children: police

Portland, OR. – A Portland man suspected of attempting to engage in sex acts with children appeared in federal court Friday.

According to the Justice Department, 56-year-old Mark David McCool was taken into custody Thursday after arriving at a Seattle hotel.

According to documents filed with the court, he was deceived into thinking he was meeting two children and it is alleged that he intended to sexually abuse them. On the other hand, authorities have said that the children, ages seven and 11, with whom McCool believed he communicated online did not actually exist.

Court records show McCool responded to an ad posted on social media by an undercover police officer. McCool is accused of describing sexual interests in minors in conversations that took place over a six-week period on the Kik messenger app.

He is also accused of giving descriptions of previous victims and collecting “trophies” from them.

Officials said McCool was arrested in Seattle after he traveled by train to a meeting at a location using a ride-sharing app, allegedly believing he was going to sexually abuse two teenagers. McCool was arrested in Seattle.

A statement released by the Justice Department said: “When McCool was arrested, he was in possession of various items that reflected his sexual interest in abusing children, including condoms, baby oil, rope and stuffed animals.”

A number of charges have been filed against McCool, including one count of attempted luring of a minor and another of traveling with the intent to engage in sexual activity with a minor irrelevant.
