Five were arrested in a theft at Ontario Mills Mall

Five people, including minors, were arrested on suspicion of ransacking a store at the Ontario Mills shopping center and stealing $5,000 worth of clothing.

Ontario police responded to a 911 call on May 8 of a group of four white-masked robbers stealing clothing from the Polo Ralph Lauren store near the mall’s south entrance.

According to KTLA5, security footage showed the robbers wearing dark clothing ransacking the store and taking as much merchandise as they could.

The four then fled in a getaway car before police arrived. It’s not clear whether a fifth person was waiting in the car for the rest of the group.

In Ontario, Ontario Mills has dedicated police units that specialize in retail theft.

The police used a search warrant to seize the stolen goods and three firearms, one of which was stolen.

As the group fled, law enforcement was able to obtain the vehicle’s license plate, said Sgt. Joseph Estrada of the Ontario Police Department.

By entering the license plate number into the police real-time information center, officers were able to identify the car and determined it was related to another theft that Montclair police were investigating, according to Ontario police.

Details of the Montclair police investigation were not immediately available.

Working with the Montclair Police Department, officers located the car and the five suspects.

Jovon Wagoner, 18, of Ontario and Alexander Dorantes, 19, of Corona were arrested on suspicion of grand larceny, conspiracy to commit a felony, shoplifting and possession of stolen property. Three other people were also arrested, but their names are not being released because they are minors.

Ontario police officers later executed a search warrant at an attached residence and seized all Polo Ralph Lauren merchandise. Police also discovered three firearms, including a stolen pistol.

Wagoner was charged by the San Bernardino County District Attorney’s Office with grand larceny, possession of stolen property, conspiracy to commit a felony and shoplifting. Dorantes was charged with burglary and conspiracy to commit a felony.
