HAAS Alert and CAA work together to ensure the safety of road workers in Canada

Safety Cloud works with CAA systems to send alerts in navigation apps to alert drivers when a tow truck is on the shoulder with a stranded vehicle. The messages encourage drivers to slow down and move to ensure the safety of tow truck drivers and those on the shoulder.

“CAA and our clubs, including BCAA and AMA, have long advocated for the protection of roadside responders through slow down, move over laws across the country,” it said Ian Jack, Vice President of Public Affairs, CAA National. “Partnering with HAAS Alerts is another step CAA is taking to protect our drivers.”

Every year CAA clubs gather around the world Canada Mark the second Tuesday in May – this year, May 14th – as National Slow Down Move Over Day.

Over North AmericaIn the last decade, more than 100 tow truck drivers have died after being struck by oncoming traffic while helping stranded motorists with flat tires, breakdowns and collisions. And given the lack of data collection on these types of deaths, this number is very conservative.

“Road safety is our top priority at HAAS Alert,” he says Devon Banks, Director, ERS and Transport at HAAS Alert. “We are excited to work with safety experts like CAA to ensure all Canadian service technicians and drivers have the tools they need to get home safely.”

With the exception of Yukon And Nunavutevery province and territory in Canada There is a law that requires drivers to slow down and pull over if they see an emergency vehicle or tow truck with flashing lights on the side of the road. The alerts that CAA and HAAS Alerts can send through navigation apps help drivers remember and comply with the slow down law, as well as roadside responders.

Safety Cloud® digital alerts work in native navigation apps in most 2018 and newer Chrysler, Dodge, Jeep and Ram vehicles, as well as in leading navigation apps such as Waze and Apple Maps. The alerts are specific to street calls from CAA members, but are visible to anyone using the designated alert platforms.
