Balanced Learning Program at Primrose Schools Houston Shapes Young Minds

Providing quality early childhood education has been a top priority for Primrose Schools, since the national early childhood education and care provider was established in 1982.

This quality education led Kelly Hammons and her husband to become franchise owners of Primrose Schools at Waterside Estates, located at 1810 Lewisville Drive, Richmond, in 2017.

“We were introduced to it by mutual friends,” Hammons said. “The more we thought about it, the more we discovered what the brand was and what it did for young learners. We kind of fell in love with everything they did and the impact they have on families with their care and education.

There are currently 45 Primrose schools in the Greater Houston area that operate on different schedules, to help accommodate parents no matter what.

The school uses a proprietary, research-informed “Balanced Learning Curriculum”, which combines the best thinking of early learning theorists with modern research to help nurture a love of learning in every child.

While many preschools use ready-made curriculum, Primrose Schools has partnered with early childhood education experts to design a proprietary learning approach. It combines focused play with careful guidance from teachers to tap into the ways children learn best.

“It teaches curiosity and creativity,” Hammons said. “It’s about teaching children skills, decision-making and character development. Our program offers many elements. I think ultimately we are trying to develop the minds of these young learners by teaching them kindness and compassion and what it means to be a good human being. This is our ultimate goal.

Schools serve infants and toddlers and offer private preschool and kindergarten programs, while some schools offer a preschool program, such as Hammons School. Most schools also offer before and after school care and summer programs.

The summer program, called Summer Adventure Club, typically begins in June and continues through August, although dates vary by location. It’s more than a summer camp, offering a fun, full-day experience for children in kindergarten through fifth grade.

Each week, children try a variety of hands-on activities, including sports, robotics and the arts, which help them develop skills in literacy, creative problem solving, STEM and more.

The summer program, along with the normal daily education and care, has been extremely popular with the children, making running the business even more rewarding for the franchise owners.

“It’s funny to me when my kids cry because they don’t want to leave school,” Hammons said. “This makes me so happy. It’s a perfect day for me. This is the unconditional love you see every day. It’s a pretty rewarding gift every day for me as an owner.

Quality early childhood education has lasting benefits for children. By partnering with parents to meet each child’s individual needs, Primrose makes the most of a child’s first five years and helps them succeed in future grades and beyond.
