Strong storms are possible later Sunday afternoon

WAUSAU, Wis. (WSAW) – Happy Mother’s Day! Sunday will be a warm day with lots of sun and a noticeable breeze. There is a first warning towards the evening with isolated showers and storms, some of which could be strong. The work week begins with more sun in the Northwoods on Monday, while there will be more clouds in the South. Dry weather will prevail in most locations until midweek. The next chance of showers and storms will occur on Thursday and into next weekend.

Sunshine mixing with clouds on Sunday, windy and almost a bit summery in the afternoon. A cold front will move southeast later Sunday into early Sunday evening, causing isolated showers and storms. An initial warning that some storms could be strong, with the main threat being gusty winds, hail up to 1 inch, downpours and lightning. Highs Sunday in the upper 70s to lower 80s.

Showers or isolated storms will develop in the early evening, otherwise it will be partly cloudy from Sunday night into early Monday morning. Low temperatures will be in the mid 40s to around 50°. There will be more sun in the Northwoods on Monday, while the center and south will be partly to mostly cloudy. Showers are possible in the far south later on Monday. Highs will be in the upper 60s to low 70s. A few showers could move into the far southern parts of the region into Monday night.

There will be quite a bit of sun on Tuesday with highs in the mid 60s. A chilly start Wednesday morning with lows in the mid to upper 30s in the Northwoods and around 40 in central Wisconsin. On Wednesday, sun will mix with clouds with high temperatures in the mid to upper 60s. The next weather maker will bring us showers for Thursday into Thursday night. Highs in the upper 60s.

Friday will be mostly cloudy, with afternoon temperatures rising to the high 60s. Next weekend could start with morning showers or thunderstorms on Saturday and then turn to partly cloudy. Highs in the mid-70s. Sunday will be partly sunny, with a chance of showers or storms later in the day. Highs will be in the mid to upper 60s.
