Houston Dynamo dominates Sporting KC thanks to Ibrahim Aliyu’s winning goal

KANSAS CITY, Kan. — Héctor Herrera scored his first goal of the season and Ibrahim Aliyu added a goal in the 78th minute to help the Houston Dynamo beat Sporting Kansas City 2-1 on Saturday night and end a three-game losing streak.

Leading the counter-attack, Griffin Dorsey worked from the right side towards the center as he worked upfield, then played a through ball to an Aliya near the penalty spot, where he bent a low shot around the outstretched arm of goalkeeper Tim Melia. and inside the far post to definitively give Sporting the advantage at 2-1.

Herrera opened the scoring in the 31st minute. He sent a corner to Amine Bassi, who played a ball that took Herrera to the corner of the box, where he fired a one-touch shot that gave Dynamo (5-4-2) a lead of 1-0.

Dániel Sallói, just outside the penalty area, quickly converted a low shot that slipped inside the near post for Sporting to make it 1-1 in the 61st.

Kansas City (2-5-5) has lost three straight and is winless for six straight.

Houston entered the game having lost three straight and four of its last five since the Dynamo won three in a row to close out March.

Dynamo’s Melia and Steve Clark made five saves each.
