Dry and mostly sunny conditions ahead of storms later this week

It will be a hot and humid Tuesday in metro Atlanta. Enjoy it while you can, as storms arrive Wednesday and Thursday.

“It’s going to be warm, even hot this afternoon,” said Channel 2 Action News meteorologist Brian Monahan.

After a mild morning with temperatures in the 60s, high temperatures will reach the 80s again today, and that will be the trend at least through Friday.

“A cooler weekend, a cooler weekend heading into Mother’s Day,” Monahan said. “The humidity will drop, and temperatures will also drop over the weekend. »

Today, there’s a 20 to 30 percent chance of fleeting showers, but most of us should stay dry, he said.

The storms arrive Wednesday, but they will mostly stay in the mountains of far north Georgia. A few isolated showers could develop in the afternoon, and another round of strong storms will move through the metro area late Wednesday night into Thursday morning. These can be severe, with the main concern being damaging wind gusts, Monahan said.

Five-day forecast for May 7, 2024.
