Shooting on Randall’s Island leaves one dead and two injured


New York, NY – Early Monday morning, police responded to a 911 call reporting a shooting on Randall’s Island, Field 71, within the 25th Precinct.

When officers arrived at approximately 3:30 a.m., they found three victims with gunshot wounds. A 44-year-old woman had gunshot wounds to the face and back and was taken to Harlem Hospital, where she was pronounced dead. A 32-year-old man with a gunshot wound to the neck and a 31-year-old woman with a gunshot wound to the back were also taken to Harlem Hospital and are in stable condition.

The identity of the deceased woman has not been determined pending proper notification of her family. No arrests have been made and the investigation is ongoing.

    Hagerstown, MD – On Saturday, July 27, at 5:10 p.m., a structure fire was reported at 17604 Heisterboro Road in Hagerstown, Washington County. The incident involved a one-story, single-family residence owned by Alisha and Travis Baker.

    The fire caused an estimated $50,000 in property damage and $25,000 in inventory loss. Smoke detectors were present and activated in the residence during the incident. There were no fire alarms or sprinkler systems installed.

    The Halfway Volunteer Fire Department was the first fire department to respond to the fire with 62 firefighters on scene. The fire was brought under control within 30 minutes. A neighbor discovered the fire originating from an exterior wall. The preliminary cause was determined to be an accidental problem with the grounding system.

    Residents are currently receiving assistance from the American Red Cross. The fire investigation is ongoing.

    Conowingo, MD – On Sunday, July 28, at 8:27 p.m., a structure fire occurred at 370 Old Mill Road in Conowingo, Cecil County. The incident involved a vacant manufactured home owned by Joanne Pugh.

    The 60-by-28-foot building was engulfed in flames, but no injuries or deaths were reported. The fire caused an estimated $18,000 in structural damage and $2,000 in lost contents. The status of the smoke detectors is unknown, and there were no fire alarms or sprinkler systems in place.

    The Water Witch Fire Company was the first to arrive on the scene. 40 firefighters arrived on scene. The fire was under control within 20 minutes. The owner discovered the fire and it was determined to have started inside the home. The cause of the fire is still under investigation.
