Man using cellphone stabbed in 'unprovoked attack' outside Atlanta mall

ATLANTA — A 69-year-old man is recovering after Atlanta police said he was attacked by an unknown assailant early Sunday morning.

Around 2:10 a.m., Atlanta police were called to 3030 Headland Drive in southwest Atlanta about a stabbing. The address lists several businesses, including restaurants and clothing stores.

When the police arrived, they found a 69-year-old man with a knife wound to the stomach.

Atlanta investigators say the victim was sitting outside using her cellphone when a man approached her and stabbed her in an unprovoked attack.

The victim was taken to hospital for medical treatment.

Police did not say whether a suspect was in custody. The identity of the victim has not been released.

The investigation is ongoing.
